News Desk:
Jahidul Islam, central president of Bangladesh Chhatra Shibir, has accused the government of delaying justice for the July genocide, saying that despite ample evidence, no action has been taken. He controversially added, “The Awami League are not human, they are animals. Humans show compassion to other humans, but they are like animals.”
On Thursday morning (November 13), Chhatra Shibir organized a protest march in Dhaka demanding justice for the July and other genocides, legal recognition of the July Charter, and condemning the destructive activities of the banned Awami League. The remarks were made during a gathering at the foot of the Raju sculpture at Dhaka University following the march.
Addressing Awami League activists, Jahidul Islam said, “Your leader abandoned you, fleeing in a helicopter, leaving you to face death. Yet, at her words, you run around like rats and mice.”
He further warned, “We have already shown a red card to Hasina. In the future, for those who become fascists, the student body is ready with a double red card.”
At the same assembly, Chhatra Shibir central secretary-general Nurul Islam Saddam said that Hasina is creating instability in the country by sending video messages from hiding in India. Meanwhile, Awami League leaders and activists are being treated leniently; nearly 40,000 Awami League members have been arrested in the past year and a half, of whom at least 35,000 have been granted bail.
