The Party Will Remember Leaders and Activists Who Endured Jail and Oppression: Shama Obaid

Faridpur Correspondent: Shama Obaid Islam, Organizational Secretary of BNP’s Central Committee, said that the party will remember those leaders and activists who, despite enduring long imprisonment and oppression, remained loyal and did not betray the party. Expressing optimism, he added, “With the fall of authoritarian rule, we now have an opportunity for a fair election. Everyone can vote for their preferred candidates to secure victory.”

Shama Obaid made these remarks on Sunday (November 9) afternoon while delivering the keynote speech at a memorial and prayer ceremony for the late Asad Matubber, former Joint Organizational Secretary of Saltha Upazila BNP. He also provided important instructions to party activists.

As the BNP-nominated MP candidate for Faridpur-2, Shama Obaid directed all party leaders and workers in his constituency to ensure that no one tampers with votes cast for the party’s symbol, the “Paddy Sheaf.”

He emphasized, “Everyone must remain united. Otherwise, we will face significant setbacks. If BNP forms the next government and we enter parliament, we will carry out substantial development in Saltha and create employment opportunities for the youth.”

Congratulating other candidates, he said, “BNP believes in multiparty democracy. There will be candidates from various parties in the election, and that is not a problem. Many candidates are contesting for the MP position in Faridpur-2. We congratulate all of them and wish them well.”

However, he criticized beneficiaries of the Awami League, saying, “Those who enjoyed privileges during the authoritarian Awami League rule—if they now talk about development, it is laughable.”

Other attendees at the memorial included former Saltha Upazila BNP President Md. Siddiqur Rahman Talukdar, former Senior Vice President of Nagar Khanda Upazila BNP Habibur Rahman Babul Talukdar, former Saltha Upazila Chairman Md. Wahiduzzaman, former Vice Chairman of Saltha Upazila Asad Matubber, and local leaders of BNP, Jubo Dal, Swechhasebak Dal, and Chhatra Dal.
