Benapol Correspondent: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted a raid on the Navaron Government Food Warehouse in Sharsha, Jashore, following allegations of storing substandard rice and discrepancies in paddy procurement accounts. The warehouse’s Acting Officer, Jamshed Iqbalur Rahman, has been directed to appear at the Jashore ACC office with relevant documents.
The raid was carried out on Tuesday afternoon under the leadership of Al-Amin, Assistant Director of Jashore ACC.
Reports indicate that 12,616 metric tons of rice were purchased from 17 rice mills in Sharsha Upazila. Allegedly, Jamshed Iqbalur Rahman took a commission of BDT 0.60 per kilogram of rice and also received commissions on 1,056 metric tons of paddy purchased from these mills.
During the raid, substandard rice was found in warehouses numbered 4, 5, and 6, and no proper accounts of paddy procurement could be presented. As a result, the ACC has summoned the acting officer to its office.
Local sources have also claimed that a syndicate led by the warehouse’s acting officer, Jamshed Iqbalur Rahman, and Deputy Food Inspector Farzana has been involved in various irregularities at the food warehouse.
