News Desk: Dr. Asif Nazrul, the Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Advisor to the Interim Government, said the government is prioritizing the prosecution and exemplary punishment of those involved in crimes against humanity committed against students and the public during July-August.
On Saturday (May 10) afternoon, Dr. Asif Nazrul made this statement during a consultation meeting on the draft of the "Disappearances Prevention and Remedy Ordinance, 2025" (second draft) at the Judicial Administration Training Institute in the capital.
Dr. Asif Nazrul said, We will form a 'Truth and Reconciliation Commission' with the goal of national unity. To determine the structure and functioning of the commission, I, along with a team, will visit South Africa, where successful examples of such commissions exist.
He added, "To eliminate the long-standing conflict and division within the nation, we must certainly find a path to unity. The number of those who have committed heinous acts like genocide or crimes against humanity is not large. However, it is essential to ensure their appropriate punishment and establish their separation from society."
As an advisor on law, he stated, "To build national unity, we must send a clear message against the heinous crimes of the past. We will be able to do this through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission."
