A meeting to exchange views on preventing naval piracy was held in Kurigram

Kurigram Correspondent: A joint meeting was held by the district administration and district police to prevent naval robbery in Kurigram district.

On Wednesday (February 12) afternoon, Deputy Commissioner Nusrat Sultana and Superintendent of Police Md. Mahafuzur Rahman were present at the view-exchange meeting at the Chilmari River Port Ferry Terminal. Important discussions were held at the meeting on the issues to be addressed to prevent robberies in all rivers of Kurigram district including the Chilmari Brahmaputra River. During this time, the local people presented various important demands including increasing the manpower of the Naval Police, allocating a powerful speedboat for the Naval Police, increasing police patrols on the days of the Chilmari Jorgach Haat, and quickly arresting the robbers and bringing them under the law.

Police Superintendent Md. Mahfuzur Rahman said that the police administration will continue to work with maximum strength. At the same time, he sought the cooperation of the local people of Chilmari Upazila. He advised everyone to work with a single mind and responsibility so that this unexpected incident does not happen again in the future with the cooperation of everyone. He said that the police force will carry out their duties as usual. In addition, Deputy Commissioner Nusrat Sultana said that the robbery that took place in the past few days is very sad, she said that the district administration will provide maximum support so that such robbery does not happen again in the Chilmari Brahmaputra River in the future. She also said that everything is possible if the public wants, she believes that if the people help us, there will be no more robberies in the Brahmaputra River.  

Also present at the meeting were Nageshwari Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police (Assistant Superintendent of Police, Phulbari and Nageshwari Circles and currently in charge of Ulipur, Chilmari Circle) Md. Mozammel Haque, Chilmari Upazila Executive Officer Sabuj Kumar Basak, DIO-1 Md. Alamgir Hossain, Chilmari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Musahed Khan, Dhusmara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Ashraful Islam, Chilmari Naval Police Outpost In-Charge Md. Imtiaz Kabir, former General Secretary Chilmari Upazila BNP Md. Matin Shirin Sarkar, among others.
