Sports Desk: Former South African captain Faf du Plessis has decided to retire from international Test cricket in a hurry. After playing 69 matches in white-clad elite cricket, he announced his stop. However, Faf du Plessis wanted to retire through the Test series against Australia at home.

But recently the Australian cricket team has postponed its tour of South Africa indefinitely. So Du Plessis did not retire from the field in Tests. The 36-year-old middle-order batsman made his cricketing debut in the Adelaide Test against South Africa in the 2012-13 season in Australia. Du Plessis played two innings of 6 and 110 in two innings to lead the team to a memorable draw in his first match and won the Man of the Match award.

In all, Du Plessis has scored 4183 runs in 69 Tests at an average of 40.02 with 10 centuries and 21 half-centuries. He will never be seen playing Test cricket for South Africa again. Du Plessis was named South Africa's Test captain in mid-2017, replacing AB de Villiers. He later left the captaincy in 2020 to take on the responsibility of losing the Test series 1-3 at home against England. South Africa have played 38 Tests under Du Plessis.

Where there were 16 wins and 15 defeats. The Proteas won 18 of the first 28 matches under him. Later, they lost 6 matches in a row starting from February 2019. That's why Du Plessis left the captaincy. Despite retiring from Test cricket, Du Plessis will play limited overs cricket. The batsman, who has played 143 ODIs and 50 T20Is so far, has expressed his desire to play in both formats for a few more days.
