International desk: Russia launched a terrible missile attack on Ukraine. Ten people were killed in the attack on a residential building in the Sumy region of this Eastern European country. Two children are also among the dead. More than fifty people were injured. Besides, another missile attack left the region's main city and administrative center without electricity.
Reuters reported this information in a report on Sunday (November 18). According to reports, 10 people, including two children, were killed when a Russian missile hit a residential building in the northeastern city of Sumy, Ukraine. A Russian missile hit a 9-storey building in the city late on Sunday night. Another 55 people, including eight children, were injured in the attack, Sumi's city council said on the Telegram messaging app.
Volodymyr Artyukh, head of the Sumy military administration, said in a post on the administration's Telegram message channel, "Sunday evening turned into hell for the city of Sumy, Russia brought tragedy to our land. Another missile fired by Russia hit critical infrastructure, leaving the city without power, the military administration said. Meanwhile, rescuers and members of the essential services continue to work at the scene and psychologists are providing assistance to victims, Ukraine's state emergency service said in a telegram.
They also said that more than 400 people have been evacuated. Pictures posted on Telegram by Ukraine's State Emergency Service showed firefighters battling the blaze and rescuers evacuating people from a building. Another photo shows a high-rise building with almost all its windows blown out and its facade damaged.
There was no immediate comment from Russia. Incidentally, in February 2022, the Russian military launched an all-out attack on Ukraine. Since then, around 12,000 civilians have been killed in this Eastern European country.
In this two-and-a-half-year-long war, the Russian forces have partially occupied the four provinces of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia in Ukraine. The combined area of the Russian-occupied parts of these four provinces is one-fifth of the total territory of Ukraine. In addition, last Friday, Russian forces also made progress in the eastern front.
