International Desk: The main opposition leader in the 18th Lok Sabha in India is the former president of the Indian National Congress and one of the top leaders of the party, Rahul Gandhi.

Congress general secretary KC Benugopal confirmed this information. Indian media NDTV reported this information in a report on Tuesday (June 25) night. According to reports, General Secretary KC Benugopal said on Tuesday night that Rahul Gandhi will be the main opposition leader in the 18th Lok Sabha.

He said, "CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has written to Speaker Protem Bhartrihari Mahtab and informed about the decision to appoint Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha." Besides, he also said that a decision will be taken about other office bearers later. Basically, the 18th Lok Sabha of India is going to witness a big fight on Wednesday itself. The Lok Sabha Speaker's post will be contested between the opposition and the ruling coalition.

This decision was announced a few hours before. Meanwhile, before announcing the decision, Rahul attended a meeting with All India Lok Sabha leaders at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharg's residence in Delhi. It was in that meeting that it was decided to appoint him as the Chief Opposition Leader in the Lok Sabha.

However, a resolution in this regard was passed in the Congress Working Committee meeting on June 9. Then the onus was given to Rahul to take the final decision on the matter. Rahul Gandhi said at the time that he needed some time to think about the matter before taking a decision. In 2024, however, Congress won 99 seats.
