International Desk: Once again Shahbaz Sharif has been elected as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. He was elected to this post on Sunday (March 3) by the majority of members of the country's National Assembly. This is the second time that this member of the influential Sharif family has been elected as the Prime Minister of this nuclear-powered country in South Asia. Pakistani media The Dawn and The News International reported this information in separate reports on Sunday.

According to a Dawn report, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq announced that PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif has been elected as the 24th Prime Minister of Pakistan by getting 201 votes. On the other hand, PTI's prime ministerial candidate Omar Ayub Khan got 92 votes. Before this, the general election was held in Pakistan on February 8. On this day, out of 266 seats of the National Assembly, 265 seats were voted.

Independent candidates supported by Imran Khan's party PTI won 92 seats, Nawaz Sharif's PML-N 75 seats and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's PPP 54 seats. However, no party got a single majority in this election. For this, the PML-N leaders were negotiating with the leaders of PPP and other like-minded parties from the beginning to form the coalition government. Three-time former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's party PML-N eventually formed an alliance of six parties. On the other hand, former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party PTI could not directly participate in this election. Hence the PTI-backed independent candidates who won the elections joined the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

Originally, PTI decided to ally with the Sunni Ittehad Council to get a share of reserved seats in the National Assembly. Even before and after the elections, the name of Nawaz Sharif was repeatedly mentioned as the prime ministerial candidate of PML-N. However, after the election, Nawaz suddenly withdrew his name from the race and announced the name of his younger brother Shahbaz Sharif. Earlier in April 2022, the coalition government of Imran Khan left after losing the no-confidence vote brought by the opposition, and the opposition formed a coalition government under the leadership of Shahbaz. He served as the prime minister of that coalition government.

This time also such a coalition government is going to be formed in Pakistan. Uproar in the National Assembly On Sunday at around 11 am local time, the National Assembly voted for the election of the Prime Minister. Members of parliament from different parties started coming to the parliament building one by one on the occasion of the vote. After that, the session started under the chairmanship of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

At that time, the MPs of the imprisoned Imran Khan's party PTI and PML-N and alliance partners started chanting slogans. Their counter slogans created commotion in the National Assembly. Apart from this, as soon as the polling started, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) MPs walked out of the National Assembly announcing boycott of the elections. Akhtar Mengal of Balochistan National Party (BNP) Mengal has boycotted the election of Prime Minister. He sat in the National Assembly but did not vote.

Presidential election on March 9 According to the notification issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the presidential election will be held on March 9. On this day, members of the National Assembly will choose the next president of the country. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has announced the name of Mahmood Khan Achakzai as its candidate for Pakistan's presidential election.

The party nominated him as the presidential candidate on Saturday (March 2). Mahmud Khan is the head of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP). He will contest for the country's top constitutional post against Asif Ali Zardari, former president of Pakistan and co-chairman of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP). Asif Ali is a joint candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) and other political parties.
