Bumper yield in wheat cultivation in Kurigram

Kurigram Correspondent:  Farmers are looking at the possibility of bumper yield in wheat cultivation in different areas including pastures in Ulipur of Kurigram. Compared to other years, wheat has been cultivated extensively in the upazila this year. The green foliage of wheat covers the fields of different areas including pastures. The hope of wheat farmers is that there is a possibility of wheat yield of 10 to 12 maunds per bigha of land this time. Along with that, the price in the market is also likely to be relatively high. Those who have cultivated wheat this time are also likely to be self-sufficient. Farmers of this area are expecting good yield and huge profit as the weather is favorable in the current season. It is learned that many farmers have cultivated wheat without planting potatoes or mustard seeds after harvesting Aman paddy. Marginal farmers have cultivated a large amount of wheat in the upazila in the current season as both the yield and price of wheat have been good for several years. The people of this region are generally dependent on agriculture.

Apart from wheat cultivation, the farmers of this region make a living from different types of crops throughout the year. According to the upazila agriculture office, this time the target size of wheat cultivation in 13 unions including 1 municipality of the upazila is 690 hectares. The target level of wheat cultivation has been exceeded. Wheat production target level is 2 thousand 464 MT. Upazila Agriculture Office has distributed free seeds and fertilizers to small and marginal wheat farmers. The source said that they continue to advise on various types of pest control. On the surface, the fields of various areas including the Teestar pastures of the upazila can be seen, the ceremony of wheat cultivation. Green leaves of wheat are adorning the field. Farmers are surrounded by the green color of wheat. A sight to behold is the harvest field. Now the farmers are dreaming of green color across the field. In a few days the grain of wheat will come out completely. But in the course of time, wheat cultivation was on the way to extinction.

Once upon a time, wheat cultivation was done in every field of the upazila. But nowadays farmers are more inclined towards potato cultivation. As a result wheat cultivation is disappearing day by day. Due to the supply of high quality wheat seeds at the farmer level through modern technology, farmers are more inclined towards wheat cultivation. Due to favorable weather conditions, there has been extensive cultivation of wheat in 13 unions of the upazila this season. Apart from this, the farmers are dreaming of better yield as well as better price this year than last year. The Upazila Agriculture Extension Department directly visited the wheat field with full-time cooperation of the farmers and gave various suggestions to the farmers to increase the cultivation of wheat. Mohil Uddin of Tipma area of ​​Charanchal said that he cultivated wheat on 33 century land with seeds and fertilizers as incentives from the upazila agriculture office. 8 thousand rupees have been spent so far.

7 thousand rupees will be spent till the wheat is raised. The total cost will be 15 thousand rupees. As the expected yield is expected, wheat is expected to be around 18 maunds. Last year wheat market was 16 hundred taka per maund. Expecting a total income of 28 thousand taka in the hope of such a market. Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Alamgir Hossain said, there are a total of 65 wheat exhibitions in Nandunefra, Shukdev, Kazir Chowk and Titma areas in Char area. Free seeds and fertilizers have been distributed to these wheat farmers. All the wheat farmers in my block including these wheat farmers are expected to get a bumper crop of wheat here due to various suggestions. Wheat farmers will benefit a lot as the weather is favorable this year. 

Upazila agriculture officer and agronomist Md. Mosharof Hossain said that compared to last year, wheat cultivation has increased. The target for wheat cultivation has also been exceeded. We are constantly advising the farmers in the field. He said that if the weather is favorable, farmers will get a good yield of wheat this year.
