Kurigram Correspondent: In Chilmari of Kurigram, there has been an allegation of construction of a multi-storied building with one year lease of 6 percent of the Chandinaviti area in the periphery of Thanahat Bazar. The upazila administration has issued a notice to cancel the lease and demolish the building as a multi-storied building has been constructed in the name of 12 members of Thanahat Bazar Adarsh Banik Kalyan Sansthan on leased land. According to the source, the then upazila executive officer and assistant commissioner (land) granted a single lease of 6 percent of Chandinaviti, located in the heart of the upazila city, in the name of 12 members of Thanahat Bazar Adarsh Banik Kalyan Sansthan on December 20, 2020. Later, without renewal, the construction of a multi-storied building was started on that 6 percent place with the money collected by members of Thanahat Bazar Adarsh Vanik Kalyan Sansthan. This created anger among the members of the association. Meanwhile, as the construction of permanent infrastructure (multi-storied building) is contrary to the government Khas land settlement policy, the settlement was canceled by the district administration on 17 July 2022 on the recommendation of the upazila administration. Accordingly, each of the 12 members was issued a separate notice on August 29 from the office of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer to remove the permanent infrastructure from the land canceled by settlement. The construction work of the building is going on even though there is an instruction to remove the permanent infrastructure within 7 days of receiving the notice. On Tuesday, when we went to Thanahat Bazar area on the surface, it was seen that the building construction work is going on in the settled area. At that time, some members of Thanahat Bazar Adarsh Banik Kalyan Sansthan, who did not want to be named, expressed their anger and said that the president is spending the money we have collected to build buildings as he wants. Now, if the construction work of the building is stopped and it is removed, the association will face a huge financial loss. In this regard, President of Thanahat Bazar Adarsh Banik Kalyan Sansthan Md. Mahfuzar Rahman Manju said that the land was settled in the name of 12 members of the association for the sake of the association, but later we gave it to the name of the association through a resolution. As the place is low, we started the construction of the building by filling the soil and casting the roof. Upazila Executive Officer Md. Mahbubur Rahman said that a notice has been given to remove the permanent infrastructure from the canceled settlement area. Necessary action will be taken if not removed within specified time.
