Presenting the identity card of the newly appointed Ambassador of Bangladesh to the King of Spain

Spain Correspondent: Bangladesh's newly appointed Ambassador to Spain Mohammad Sarwar Mahmud has handed over his credentials to King Felipe VI of Spain. The Spanish Foreign Minister and senior officials of the Bangladesh Embassy were present at the introductory ceremony in a stylish atmosphere at the Royal Palace of Spain in the capital Madrid on Monday, April 26.

After handing over the credentials, a private meeting was held between the King of Spain and the newly appointed Ambassador of Bangladesh.

At the meeting, the King extended his sincere congratulations to the newly appointed Ambassador. Ambassador Mohammad Sarwar Mahmud Raja conveyed the greetings of the President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh to Felipe VI. At the same time, the Ambassador mentioned that Spain was one of the few countries that recognized Bangladesh immediately after its independence.

He also mentioned that under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is rapidly advancing in socio-economic development, has achieved the status of a developing country and is making significant contribution in realizing the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Expressing the plight of 1.1 million displaced Rohingyas from Myanmar in Bangladesh, the Ambassador sought the continued and effective cooperation of the Spanish Government in the dignified repatriation of Rohingyas to their homeland Myanmar.

Noting the existing excellent friendly bilateral relations, the Ambassador identified new areas of potential and pledged to take the bilateral relations between the two countries to new heights. In this context, he expressed hope for Foreign Office Consultations, Dairy Tax, Expansion and Preservation of Bilateral Investment and Execution of Cultural Exchange Agreements.

He also sought the King's cooperation in increasing Bangladesh's exports to Spain and expanding Spanish investment in Bangladesh. Mentioning that Queen Sophia had visited Bangladesh several times, the Ambassador invited the King to visit Bangladesh.

King Felipe VI of Spain wished the newly appointed Ambassador of Bangladesh, Mohammad Sarwar Mahmud, all the best and expressed hope that Spain-Bangladesh bilateral relations would be further accelerated during his tenure.

He praised the government of Bangladesh for providing shelter to the Rohingyas and assured cooperation. He expressed satisfaction over the existing bilateral trade between the two countries and expressed hope that trade would become more intensive in the future. The King of Spain, through the Ambassador, wished the President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh good health. The Spanish Foreign Minister was present at the meeting.
