Diplomatic Correspondent: The Philippine Embassy in Bangladesh commemorated the 128th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with a flag-raising ceremony held at the Chancery in Dhaka on Friday. The ceremony was led by Her Excellency Nina P. Cainglet, Ambassador of the Philippines to Bangladesh.
The event brought together Embassy personnel and leaders of Filipino community organizations in Bangladesh as they joined Filipinos around the world in celebrating the nation’s enduring legacy of freedom, sovereignty, and unity under the theme “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.” (Freedom. Future. History.)
In his Independence Day message, Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reflected on the historical significance of June 12, recalling the first raising of the Philippine flag in Kawit, Cavite, and the declaration that established the Filipino people’s place among the free nations of the world.
“We commemorate June 12 because freedom, at its deepest, must be asserted by the people themselves,” President Marcos said. He emphasized that independence was only the beginning of the nation’s journey toward true freedom and national development.
The message of Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, delivered by Ambassador Cainglet, highlighted that the freedoms enjoyed by Filipinos today remain “a living, breathing reality.”
Secretary Lazaro noted that members of the Philippine Foreign Service continue to work tirelessly to strengthen relations with countries around the world, expand economic and educational opportunities, contribute to energy and health security initiatives, and safeguard the welfare of overseas Filipinos.
The commemorative program concluded with a traditional Filipino salu-salo featuring tapsilog—a popular Filipino breakfast dish consisting of garlic rice, marinated beef, and fried egg—along with a selection of kakanin, traditional rice-based delicacies. The gathering provided an opportunity for members of the Filipino community to celebrate together in a spirit of fellowship and national pride.
The celebration reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to preserving its hard-earned freedom while building a stronger and more prosperous future for generations to come.
