Diplomatic Correspondent: The Russian Embassy in Bangladesh hosted a reception in Dhaka on the occasion of Russia’s National Day, bringing together senior government officials, parliamentarians, diplomats, military representatives, journalists, and alumni of Soviet and Russian universities.
In his opening remarks, H.E. Mr. Vyacheslav Sentyurin, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Russia to Bangladesh, highlighted the significant progress achieved in Russia-Bangladesh relations during the first half of 2026. He particularly emphasized the recent visit of Bangladesh’s Foreign Adviser H.E. Dr. Khalilur Rahman to Moscow and the physical start-up of Unit 1 of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, describing both developments as important milestones in bilateral cooperation.
The event’s Chief Guest, H.E. Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, praised Russia’s rich intellectual and cultural heritage. He reaffirmed Bangladesh’s strong commitment to further strengthening its longstanding partnership and friendship with the Russian Federation.
The evening featured a vibrant cultural performance by the Alabuga Folk Song and Dance Ensemble from the Republic of Tatarstan. The artists captivated guests with traditional and contemporary musical performances, instrumental compositions, and folk dances, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural traditions of the Tatar people, one of Russia’s largest ethnic communities.
The reception reflected the growing depth of Russia-Bangladesh relations and provided an opportunity for guests to celebrate cultural diversity while reaffirming the enduring ties between the two countries.
