Diplomatic Correspondent: The 57th Director General-Level Border Coordination Conference between India’s Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) concluded successfully in New Delhi on Thursday, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to strengthening border security, combating transnational crimes, and promoting peace and stability along the shared frontier.
The four-day conference was held at the BSF Headquarters in New Delhi from June 8 to 11. The Indian delegation was led by BSF Director General Praveen Kumar, IPS, while the Bangladesh delegation was headed by BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui.
According to a joint press release issued at the conclusion of the conference, discussions were held in a cordial, positive, and forward-looking atmosphere, reflecting the longstanding cooperation and mutual trust between the two border guarding forces.
During the deliberations, both sides reviewed the prevailing border situation and discussed a wide range of issues related to border security and management. Particular emphasis was placed on preventing trans-border crimes, including narcotics and arms smuggling, human trafficking, counterfeit currency operations, gold smuggling, and illegal border crossings.
The delegations also exchanged views on border deaths, inadvertent and forcible crossings, border infrastructure development, and the implementation of the Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP).
Both sides stressed the importance of confidence-building measures and enhanced cooperation in addressing emerging security challenges along the India-Bangladesh border.
Reaffirming their shared commitment to maintaining peace, tranquility, and stability in border areas, BSF and BGB agreed to strengthen coordinated patrols, improve real-time information sharing, enhance surveillance, and intensify joint operations against transnational criminal networks.
The conference further highlighted the need to raise public awareness among border residents regarding the sanctity of the international boundary and to discourage involvement in illegal cross-border activities.
Both forces reiterated a policy of zero tolerance towards trans-border crimes, insurgent activities, and any actions that threaten border security. Expressing satisfaction with the outcomes of the conference, the two sides pledged to deepen professional engagement, mutual trust, and operational cooperation in the years ahead.
The conference concluded with the signing of the Joint Record of Discussions on June 11. Both delegations expressed confidence that the decisions and understandings reached during the meeting would further strengthen bilateral cooperation, improve border management, and contribute to the friendly relations between India and Bangladesh.
The next Director General-Level Border Coordination Conference is proposed to be held in Dhaka in November 2026 at a mutually convenient time.
