Lalmonirhat Correspondent: Lalmonirhat has erupted in protest following a recent police attack on teachers who have been agitating for their rightful demand to receive Grade 10 salaries.

On Monday (November 10) afternoon, as part of a nationwide central program, assistant teachers from all government primary schools in the district organized a human chain and protest rally at Mission Mor Roundabout in Lalmonirhat town.

The teachers demanded:

  1. Immediate implementation of Grade 10 salaries for assistant teachers,

  2. Proper medical treatment and compensation for those injured in the police attack, and

  3. Strict departmental and legal action against the police personnel involved in the assault.

Speaking at the human chain, participants said they have long suffered from salary disparity. They called for ending the existing grade inequity between head teachers and assistant teachers and urged that salaries be determined based on educational qualifications and workload.

They further criticized the use of batons, water cannons, and sound grenades on peaceful protesters in Dhaka, describing it as unprecedented and disgraceful.

Md. Abdul Jalil, coordinator of Lalmonirhat’s primary school teachers, stated, “Such brutality against the nation’s educators is unacceptable in any civilized society. As architects of the country’s future generation, it is the state’s responsibility to protect our dignity.”

The protest coordinators, including Zahidul Hasan and Shamsuzzaman Lizu, urged the government to promptly implement the three-point demand.
