In Shreepur, Gazipur, joint forces conducted an overnight operation and arrested BNP leader and independent MP candidate for Gazipur-3, Md. Enamul Haque Molla. During the raid, two firearms, walkie-talkies, magazines, and bullets were seized. Six others were also arrested in the operation.
The joint operation began at 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday, November 5, and continued until early morning.
Md. Enamul Haque Molla (50) is the son of the late Ahad Ali of Barkul village, Bormi Union, Shreepur. He is the president of Mechpala BNP in Makka Nagar and a former general secretary of Bormi Union Chhatra Dal. The six others arrested are Shaukat Mir (45), Zahid Mia (40), Mostafa Kamal (32), Siddiqur Rahman (34), Bulbul Mia (35), and Tofazzal Hossain (45).
Shreepur OC Mohammad Abdul Barik said that based on intelligence reports, joint forces under the supervision of Major Khandakar Mahiuddin Almogir (46, DB Locating) and coordinated by the Gazipur Army Camp conducted the operation. During the search of Molla’s multi-story building, authorities seized 2 foreign pistols, 3 magazines, 4 rounds of bullets, 4 walkie-talkies, 4 batons, 2 electronic short machines, 1 hammer gun, and 1 knife. Members of the army, police, and RAB participated in the operation.
Md. Enamul Haque Molla had been living in Saudi Arabia for the past 15 years. He returned to Bangladesh shortly after the fall of the Awami League government last year and became active in politics. He campaigned for BNP’s nomination for Gazipur-3, putting up banners and distributing leaflets throughout the constituency. After BNP announced its official nominee, he declared on Facebook that he would run as an independent candidate from Gazipur-3.
