News Desk: BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has stated that no conspiracy can succeed as long as national unity remains intact.
He made the remarks on Thursday (27 November) in a statement to the media on the occasion of Shaheed Dr. Shamsul Alam Khan Milon Day.
Tarique Rahman said that although the country achieved a renewed sense of independence through the united student-public movement of 5 August, the “domestic and foreign conspiracies against the motherland” have not yet ceased.
On this day in 1990, during the mass movement against autocracy, Dr. Shamsul Alam Khan Milon, a teacher at Dhaka Medical College, was shot and killed by government-backed terrorists in the TSC area of Dhaka University. His sacrifice galvanized public protests and paved the way for the fall of the government.
Paying tribute to one of the fearless faces of the 1990 anti-autocracy movement, Tarique Rahman said that Milon’s sacrifice marked a crucial turning point in the struggle to restore democracy.
In his statement, he expressed deep respect for the memory of Shaheed Dr. Shamsul Alam Milon and prayed for the peace of his departed soul.
The BNP Acting Chairman noted that Milon’s bloodshed propelled the nine-year-long anti-autocracy movement towards final victory. Restoring democratic rights had been Milon’s firm commitment, and his sacrifice will continue to inspire generations.
Tarique Rahman said that through Milon’s fresh-blood sacrifice, democracy triumphed, leading to the fall of autocracy in the country and the restoration of democratic governance. Under the leadership of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, a new journey of democracy began in the nation.
