News Desk: Foreign Adviser Md. Tauhid Hossain has said that Bangladesh will play an active and responsible role as a sovereign state during this period of global geopolitical restructuring. While many countries may seek to take sides during reconstruction, we should first choose the right path. Therefore, Bangladesh will choose the “right path” for reconstruction, not favoring any party, he emphasized.
He made these remarks on Saturday (22 November) at the inaugural session of the “Bay of Bengal Conversation 2025,” organized by the Center for Governance Studies (CGS) at a hotel in Dhaka.
The Foreign Adviser said, “In a changing international order, Bangladesh will participate confidently, giving the highest priority to national interest and regional stability.”
Tauhid Hossain added, “Bangladesh wants to take an active, sovereign, and responsible role. We will participate firmly, speak clearly when needed, and always foster effective partnerships while keeping national interest and regional stability in focus.”
Referring to shifting power structures, he stressed that Bangladesh’s participation must yield visible results while preserving sovereignty.
He said the Bay of Bengal is becoming a strategic hub. Bangladesh seeks to play a confident role there, not merely serve as a corridor.
Citing instability in Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan, and Myanmar, he noted that existing frameworks have failed to address crises. Therefore, multilateral and regional institutions must be strengthened to achieve tangible outcomes.
The Foreign Adviser highlighted Bangladesh’s humanitarian commitment through sheltering forcibly displaced Rohingyas and participating in UN peacekeeping missions.
On the use of information as a tool, he warned that fake news, deepfakes, and AI-driven influence are changing diplomacy and governance. Bangladesh aims to secure the information domain and build regulatory frameworks that protect both security and rights.
Regarding economic restructuring, he said that global supply chains, sanctions, and risk-avoidance strategies are pushing Bangladesh to diversify and strengthen regional cooperation.
He also pointed to the vast economic potential of the Bay of Bengal, emphasizing the need to build partnerships and connectivity based on mutual opportunity and resilience.
Addressing climate-related risks, he noted sea-level rise and saltwater intrusion as major challenges. He called on coastal nations to establish collaborative frameworks, share technology, and develop climate-resilient security and development strategies.
He thanked CGS for organizing the event, noting that open dialogue is essential during times of geopolitical uncertainty.
Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refat Ahmed delivered the inaugural speech. This year’s “Bay of Bengal Conversation” focuses on “Competition, Fragmentation, Reconstruction.”
The conference will discuss global competition, regional realities, changing alliances and partnerships, information warfare, artificial intelligence, climate change, economic pressures, and migration—key factors defining today’s world.
