Salimullah Medical student dies as building collapses in earthquake

A student of Sir Salimullah Medical College’s 52nd batch, Rafiul Islam, died after a building collapsed during the earthquake in Dhaka. The earthquake struck at 10:38 AM on Friday, causing the fatal incident.

According to reports, Rafiul, who lived with his family in Kashaituli, Banshkhali, had gone out with his mother to the market when a brick from a nearby building fell on his head, killing him instantly.

Sources from the medical college confirmed that Rafiul was a student of Sir Salimullah Medical College, 52nd batch (session 2023–24). His mother sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital.

Eyewitnesses stated that as soon as the earthquake began, nearby buildings started shaking. A part of an old building in Kashaituli collapsed, resulting in the deaths of Rafiul and two others, whose identities are yet to be confirmed.

Local residents rushed to the scene to assist with the rescue operation, and the bodies of the deceased were sent to the hospital morgue.
