Alfadanga UNO’s Exceptional Initiative Distributes Educational Materials to Students
Russel Iqbal, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Alfadanga in Faridpur, has launched an innovative initiative to reduce student dropout rates in government primary schools. Thanks to his personal commitment and tireless efforts, young students now attend school with enthusiasm and joy.
To encourage students who had dropped out to return to school, he has been distributing various educational materials and supplies and organizing related activities. His proactive role has garnered widespread appreciation among teachers, parents, and local residents.
Long-Term Plan for Quality Education
Since joining Alfadanga, UNO Russel Iqbal has worked to ensure quality primary education. To maintain educational standards and reduce dropout rates, he regularly inspects schools, holds parent meetings, and provides guidance and necessary support in collaboration with all stakeholders. Together with local leaders, parents, teachers, and Upazila education officials, he has developed a long-term plan to improve education in the area.
Enhancing Educational Activities and Monitoring
As part of this plan, the UNO regularly participates in monthly teachers’ meetings, ensuring that educational activities remain dynamic. He provides guidance to create a supportive learning environment, and to enhance teacher skills, he monitors examinations, evaluations, and subject-specific training programs across different school clusters. He also conducts surprise school visits to advise on modern teaching tools and observe student and teacher attendance.
Large-Scale Distribution of Materials
According to the Upazila Primary Education Office, between 21 April and the present, UNO Russel Iqbal has distributed educational and sports materials to 700–800 students across at least 15 primary schools in the Upazila. Notable distributions include:
Multimedia televisions (2), laptops (3), and wall clocks (5) to schools in remote areas.
School bags, notebooks, pens, and exam folders to nearly 100 students at Dignagnor Government Primary School.
School uniforms and shoes to over 100 underprivileged but talented students in flood-affected riverbank areas.
Notebooks, pens, and umbrellas to at least 300 students in remote regions.
Printers to 11 primary schools to support digital content creation and ICT skill development.
Recognition and Positive Impact
These initiatives have been widely praised. Alamgir Hossain, Head Teacher of Charkholabaria Government Primary School, said that student attendance has increased and teacher responsibility has improved due to the UNO’s dedication. Shamsher Uddin Tito, General Secretary of the Upazila Primary Teachers’ Association, noted, “We have never seen any UNO undertake such an initiative before.”
Upazila Primary Education Officer Md. Rafiqul Islam remarked that the program is highly commendable, and that attendance among disadvantaged and impoverished children has improved significantly.
UNO’s Perspective
Russel Iqbal, UNO of Alfadanga, stated:
"There is no alternative to education in building a developed nation. I have therefore focused on education. Ensuring quality primary education is essential. Sustainable development can only be achieved if every student develops an interest in learning and receives education in a proper environment."
