News Desk: Four police officers have been withdrawn following the murder of Tawsif Rahman (15), son of Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Abdur Rahman, and the attempted murder of his wife, Tasmin Nahar Lusi.
On Saturday (November 15), the officers were temporarily suspended and attached to the police lines. Their withdrawal comes amid allegations of negligence in duty.
Gaziur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (DC) and spokesperson of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP), confirmed the development.
The officers withdrawn are: Sub-Inspector (SI) Abu Shahadat, Constable Abdus Sabur, Mahfuzar Rahman, and Mithu Sardar of Rajpara Police Station.
It is reported that, a day after the incident, RMP Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian was summoned to court following a show-cause notice. This followed allegations that a video statement of Limon Mia, the accused in the murder case who was under hospital custody, was recorded and circulated on social media and various news platforms. The court summons to the police commissioner caused a stir within the police department.
Meanwhile, the four officers—one SI and three constables—assigned to guard the accused Limon at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, were temporarily suspended for negligence and attached to the police lines. Further investigations into their conduct are underway, and departmental proceedings have also been initiated.
