Chief Adviser to Attend UN Assembly in New York on 21 September; Four Politicians to Accompany

News Desk: To attend the 80th United Nations General Assembly, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus will depart for New York on the night of 21 September. Accompanying him on this visit will be representatives from four political parties: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Humayun Kabir, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Naib-e Amir Dr. Abdullah Muhammad Taher, and NCP’s Akhtar Hossain. The Chief Adviser is scheduled to return on 2 October.

These details were shared by Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Towhid Hossain during a briefing at the Secretariat on Wednesday (17 September).

He added that, for the first time, a high-level meeting on the Rohingya issue will be held under the chairmanship of the UN Secretary-General. The meeting is expected to play a significant role in addressing the Rohingya crisis.

The Foreign Affairs Adviser further noted, “On 26 September, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus will deliver a speech at the UN General Assembly, highlighting the country’s preparations for the upcoming elections, ongoing reforms based on consensus, and progress in democratic processes.”

Considering the country’s current political situation, four political party representatives have been included in the Chief Adviser’s delegation, Towhid Hossain added.
