Additional IGP Rezaul Karim Appointed Head of Anti-Terrorism Unit

News Desk: Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Rezaul Karim has officially taken charge as the chief of the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU). He assumed his responsibilities on Thursday, 11 September.

The appointment was confirmed to the media on Saturday, 13 September, by Police Superintendent and Media & Awareness Wing head of ATU, Barrister Mahfuzul Alam Rasel.

Md. Rezaul Karim joined Bangladesh Police as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) on 15 November 1995 through the 15th BCS examination. Throughout his distinguished career, he has served in various capacities in districts including Bogura, Lalmonirhat, Khagrachhari, Chandpur, Rajbari, Chapainawabganj, Natore, and Jhenaidah, as well as in KMP, Highway Police, CID, SB, PTC Noakhali, RRF Dhaka, ATU, and most recently as Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police. His dedication, competence, and integrity have earned him the PPM medal and the IGP badge twice.

A graduate and post-graduate in Applied Physics and Electronics from the University of Dhaka, Rezaul Karim has received advanced professional training in Bangladesh, the United States, and Australia. He has also served in key roles during United Nations peacekeeping missions in Liberia and East Timor.

Hailing from a distinguished Muslim family in Kushtia district, Md. Rezaul Karim, upon joining ATU, instructed all levels of the unit to focus on enhancing professionalism and modern skills to strengthen the force’s future capabilities.
