Allegations of destruction of rice seedlings planted in cropland in Ulipur

Kurigram Correspondent: There have been allegations of destroying rice seedlings planted on cropland in Ulipur, Kurigram due to a previous dispute over land. The victim family filed a complaint with Ulipur Police Station on Sunday (July 27) night. The incident took place in the Gorai Pear area of the upazila.

According to the complaint and victim family sources, Shahanur Begum of the Gorai Pear area of Daldaliya Union of the upazila was having a dispute with her two other sisters Saibani and Saherbhanu Begum over the ancestral property. Later, Shahanur Begum transferred her property to her daughter Siddika Begum. Since then, Siddika Begum has been cultivating 25 acres of arable land. On Saturday (July 26) evening, Saibani and Saherbhanu Begum along with their relatives destroyed the Aman rice seedlings planted on Siddika Begum's land and cut down various species of seedlings on the boundary.

‎The victim Siddika Begum said, "My two aunts have been trying to forcibly occupy my and my family's property for a long time. They had a dispute with us over this. Last Saturday evening, they destroyed my planted paddy field with their daughter-in-law and grandchildren. When I got the news, I went to the spot and stopped them, but they abused us in foul language and attacked us. I filed a complaint with the police station on Sunday (July 27) night in the hope of a fair trial in this incident.
‎When I spoke to Saibani Begum and Saher Bhanu Begum in this regard, they admitted to destroying the paddy field and said, "We do not accept the way the ancestral property was distributed in the past. We destroyed the paddy field so that the ancestral property could be distributed again."
‎Ulipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zillur Rahman admitted to receiving the complaint and said that necessary action will be taken after investigating.
