Bundles of cash discovered while digging the ground!

News Desk: Five people have been arrested in connection with the robbery at the Abul Khair Tobacco Company office in Lama upazila of Bandarban. Police have recovered Tk 2,117,200 so far.

On Friday (May 16), Lama Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tofazzal Hossain confirmed the matter.

According to him, based on information from the detainees, the money was recovered in three separate operations conducted on Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, Tk 50,200 was recovered from Abdur Rahim in Ward 6 of Lama Municipality. Then, around 7 PM on Friday, Tk 267,000 was unearthed from a hill area near Wasir Ali’s residence in the former Bilchhari Sylheti Para. Similarly, Tk 1.8 million was dug up beside the house of a man named Karim.

Police said that Md. Karim is a key member of an inter-district robbery gang active in South Chattogram. Authorities suspect that he is the mastermind behind this robbery.

In the early hours of May 9, an armed gang of robbers stormed the Abul Khair Tobacco Company office in the Linejhiri area of Lama. The gang assaulted and tied up staff members before looting Tk 17,275,638 from the office safe.

The following day, a case was filed against 15–20 unidentified individuals. According to sources involved in the investigation, the robbers also attempted to break into an iron safe that reportedly contained an additional Tk 35 million but failed to access it.
