Thakurgaon District Awami League Office Occupied by the “July Fighters” Organization

Thakurgaon Correspondent: A group called the “July Fighters” has taken control of the Awami League district office located at the city’s crossroads in Thakurgaon.

On Monday (May 14), between 1:10 PM and 2:00 PM, a team of 8 to 10 members led by the organization’s convener Md. Raihan broke the lock of the office and entered the building, seizing control.

Eyewitnesses said that in the afternoon, members of the “July Fighters” suddenly appeared at the locked Awami League office—where all activities had been banned—and broke the lock. They then entered the building and hung their own banner inside.

Later, they announced plans to establish an office in one room and a gymnasium in another within the building.

Present at the scene were the organization’s senior joint convener Md. Hafizur Rahman, and members Dulal Islam, Rubel Islam, Tofazul Islam, and Sabuj. They said that a full committee for the “July Fighters” has not yet been announced, but it will be revealed soon.

The convener Md. Raihan said, “This office of the banned political party had been abandoned for a long time. From today, it is under our control. From here, we will carry out development activities and work for the welfare of the country.”

There has been no comment yet from the administration regarding the matter.

After Sheikh Hasina fled the country on August 5, leaders and activists at all levels from district to upazila went into hiding. Since then, political offices across the country have been occupied by different groups under various names.
