Drone Recovered at Hakimpur Border

Dinajpur Correspondent: A drone has been recovered from a paddy field near the Ghasuria border in Hakimpur, Dinajpur. However, even after two days, no one has claimed ownership of the drone. It is suspected that the drone may have crossed the border from the Indian side and lost communication, causing it to fall into the Bangladeshi area. The drone is currently in police custody.

According to reports, on Wednesday, May 14, Ghasuria indigenous resident Prafulla Toppo and some other workers were harvesting paddy in a field near the border. During the work, they noticed a shiny black drone lying inactive in the middle of the field. After finishing work, Prafulla Toppo took the drone home.

Local Khatta Madhabpara Union Parishad member Mobarak Hossain told journalists, “A group of laborers was harvesting paddy in the land of Mirajul Islam in Ghasuria village, adjacent to sub-pillar number 21 of main border pillar 287. That’s when the drone caught the attention of the workers. After taking it home, locals informed the Mongla BGB camp and the police station.”

Hakimpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge SM Jahangir Alam stated that the agricultural workers found the drone approximately 400 yards inside the Bangladeshi territory from the Ghasuria border. Upon receiving the news, the police seized the drone camera around 10 PM on Wednesday night. The drone has five camera lenses attached to it. As of Thursday, the second day since the recovery, no one has claimed ownership of the drone.

He added that they have not yet examined whether there are any video recordings or photos in the drone. However, efforts will be made to extract information from it.

Speculation is ongoing about whether the drone was used by smuggling gangs for surveillance or by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) for border monitoring.
