Two factions clash over dominance in Rupganj, 1 killed

Narayanganj Correspondent: Clashes and gunfire broke out between two parties over dominance at the Chanpara Rehabilitation Center in Rupganj, Narayanganj. A youth activist named Hasib (40) was shot dead during the incident. It is reported that at least 30 people from both sides were injured in the incident. 

The incident took place between 4:30 am and 12 noon on Wednesday in the Chanpara Rehabilitation Center area of ​​Kayetpara Union of the upazila. The deceased Jubo Dal activist Hasib is the son of Anwar Hossain of Chanpara area. 

Locals and eyewitnesses said that Shamim of Jubo Dal and Rabbani of Swechchhasebak Dal have been in a long-standing dispute over drug trafficking, extortion and dominance in the area. Due to this, a clash broke out between the two parties at around 7:04 am today. At that time, both sides exchanged gunfire. At that time, Jubo Dal worker Hasib was shot and killed. At least 30 people from both sides were injured. The injured were rescued and taken to the Upazila Health Complex, while the bullet-injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. This incident created panic in the Chanpara area. 

The deceased's elder brother, Jubo Dal activist Babu, said, "Last Tuesday night, drug dealer Robin was arrested by some people in the area. At that time, Kayetpara Union Volunteer Dal activist Rabbani and his people came and rescued him. Later, they attacked us with their people in the morning. My younger brother Hasib was shot and died. I want justice for my brother's murder." 

Shamim, senior joint convener of Rupganj Upazila Jubo Dal, said, "I am not in the area. I heard that people from Rabbani, an activist of Kayetpara Union Swechchhasebak Dal, shot my Jubo Dal activist Hasib while arresting a drug dealer named Robin. He died on the spot. His family will take legal action in this incident." 

In this regard, Rupganj Upazila Volunteer Party convener Rafiqul Islam said, "I have heard about the clashes between the two parties. Rabbani formed a volunteer party with me. Organizational action will be taken against the culprits." 

Narayanganj 'C' Circle ASP Mehedi Hasan said that police were sent to the spot after hearing about a clash between two groups, Shamim and Rabbani, over dominance in the Chanpara area. A youth was killed in the incident. An operation is currently underway in the area.
