'If I can prove that I used to be an A.L., I will resign from the Krishak Dal'

Pabna Correspondent: ' Some leaders of my party are taking money from Awami League and speaking against me. If I had joined Awami League or had been in league with them, they would not have been able to make such false criticisms about me now. If anyone can prove that I joined Awami League or was involved with Awami League, I will resign from Krishak Dal.'

Nazrul Islam, the president of Krishak Dal of Bilchalon Union in Chatmohar Upazila of Pabna, has thrown such a challenge from the protest meeting regarding the allegations against him.

The protest meeting was held in Kumargara village of Chatmohar Upazila on Saturday (March 8) afternoon.

Recently, a news report titled 'From A.League worker to Krishak Dal leader, 10 people resign in protest' was published in various media outlets. It was mentioned that the Upazila Krishak Dal recently announced a 51-member committee of the Krishak Dal of Bilchalon Union in Chatmohar Upazila. The committee includes Nazrul Islam as the president, Babu Mia as the vice-president, Abdul Momin as the organizing secretary and Alhaj Hossain as the publicity secretary.

Local leaders and activists alleged that the committee president, vice-president, organizing secretary and publicity secretary were active workers of the Awami League during the previous Awami League government. In the last national elections, President Nazrul Islam had a boat office at his house. In the past 16 years, they have never participated in any program of BNP or its affiliated organizations. They have always worked for the Awami League. In protest of this incident, 10 people resigned from the newly announced committee. At the same time, they demanded the formation of a new committee with the resigned workers.

The accused Krishak Dal leader Nazrul Islam presented his position by organizing a protest meeting on Saturday against all this. He said, "I started activities in every ward of Bilchalon Union to take the Krishak Dal forward. When I went to hold a farmers' rally in Ward No. 2, Notabaria, I had to face obstacles. The Awami League's Suruj Bahini, Ripon Bahini, Farid Bahini, and Salam Bahini stopped me. When I protested to them, they started conspiring against me. They have people from our party and some brokers, including BNP."

Nazrul said, "The former member of ward number 4 has been in league with the Awami League for the past 16 years, the current member Nazrul Islam is also in league with Awami League Chairman Akhter Hossain and is still working as a driver. Maybe he gets a monthly salary as a driver. If that is not the case, then why does he claim to be BNP and work as Akhter Chairman's driver?"

He said, "The talk about me that I became the leader of the Krishak Dal from the Awami League. I protest against it. If anyone can prove that I am a member of the Awami League or was involved with the Awami League, then I will resign from the Krishak Dal. I want to tell the conspirators that you have no ground under your feet. That is why you are criticizing me today. I have never been in league with the Awami League on the streets. Rather, I fought with the Awami League."

Nazrul Islam said, 'Akhtar Chairman invited me to his house, I did not go. But Nazrul Member, Anwar Member accepted the invitation to his house. This may be my crime, I did not go to the Chairman's house to eat. If I had accepted the invitation to his house, then maybe this conspiracy would not have happened against me. He claimed that the allegations against him were false and fabricated. He said, there will be no benefit in conspiring.'

Present at the protest meeting and speaking were former convener of the Municipal BNP AM Zakaria, former senior vice president Abdur Rahim, convener of the Upazila Jubo Dal Golzar Hossain, joint convener Monir Hossain, former member secretary of Bilchalon Union BNP Ashraful Khan, joint convener of the Upazila Krishak Dal Abdul Matin, general secretary of the Bilchalon Union Krishak Dal Shah Alam, organizing secretary Momin Hossain, among others.
