Khaleda Zia's acquittal in Zia Charitable Trust corruption case upheld

News Desk:  The Appellate Division has upheld the High Court's verdict acquitting BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from a 7-year sentence in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.

The Appellate Division, headed by Justice Md. Ashfaqul Islam, issued the order on Monday (March 3) morning.

Earlier, on November 27, the High Court acquitted Begum Khaleda Zia from a seven-year sentence in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case. The state and the Anti-Corruption Commission appealed against the verdict.

 In October 2018, a special judge's court sentenced BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to seven years in prison in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.

 After the political landscape changed on August 5, 2024, the BNP Chairperson was acquitted of all cases through legal processes one by one.
