Jamalpur Correspondent: Rokia Begum (45) moved to Jamalpur with her husband and two children 10 years ago to turn the wheel of fortune after being attacked and sued over a land dispute. But even after so many years, fate did not look back at them.

Rokia is living an inhuman life with her husband and children on the side of the road. Rokia Begum is the wife of Lokman (Gadu) of Dulviti village in Doil Union of Sarishabari upazila. It is learned that 10 years ago, a dispute and lawsuit started with Lokman's own brother over land.

But Lokman could not survive after fighting with his influential brother and at one stage he moved to Jamalpur with his family. Later, in the city of millions of people surrounded by bricks and stones, they settled on the banks of the river Brahmaputra.

Rokeya made a small space with old cloth and polythene by planting bamboo along the concrete pillars of the road. She now lives in that house with her husband and children. Looking at the place, I remember the words of a song by artist Monir Khan, I built a house in a straw hut, like a babui bird, I gave love to this heart as much as I love a dead bird in that house, I keep an eye on it.

On Monday morning, I went to the spot and saw an old cloth fence on all four sides. Wrap it with polythene on one side and cover it with polythene and old cloth on top. Multiple holes in the fabric fence. Not believing without seeing it with your own eyes. Talking to Rokia Begum. “I’ve been in this place for about 10 years,” he said. Life goes on with great difficulty. A boy spends 150-200 rupees a day.

How can I tell my father that I am in trouble in this winter, there is no winter clothes, my hands and feet get cold in the cold air at night. I think, “When we go to Moira, no one will stand next to us! Rokia further said, a few days ago I saw the mayor giving blankets in the municipality, later I also went, gave blankets to everyone but, did not give me! Said I don't have paper.

Rokeya's husband Lokman Mia (Gadu) said, "I had all my land and houses. At one time, I used to sell various vegetables in the market." A dispute over land started with my elder brother Abdur Rahman.

A few days later, nephew Shahinur Rahman filed a case after his brother died. I have approached various leaders and no one has agreed on this issue. “The people in the house don’t let me go to the land now,” he said. Two nephews threatened to kill me. I want to go home now, I want a place to go, this is the last wish of my life from the government.
