Birangana Johra got the support of the Prime Minister

Gaibandha Correspondent: Birangana Johra Begum of Gaibandha's Sundarganj Upazila got the support of the Prime Minister after 49 years of independence. Gaibandha Deputy Commissioner Md Abdul Matin reached the house of the ailing Birangana Johra Begum on Tuesday morning and conveyed the help of the Prime Minister. Deputy Commissioner Birangana Johra Begum handed over Rs 20,000 in cash, a fruit basket, five blankets as winter clothes and four sacks of various food items for a month. Earlier, Birangana Johra Begum was felicitated. Additional Deputy Commissioner (NDC) SM Fayez Uddin, Sundarganj Upazila Executive Officer Mohammad Al Maruf, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer AKM Idris Ali, Assistant Commissioner VM Shakil Ahmed, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Walif Mandal, Sarbananda UP Chairman Mahbubur Rahman were present on the occasion.

Major. Birangana is the wife of Ahmad Hossain of Rambhadra Sardarpara village in Sarbananda union of Johra Begum upazila. He is currently 8 years old. Mahfuz Kabir, the youngest son of Johra Begum, said that her mother has been undergoing treatment at her home for 13 years after suffering from various complex mental illnesses. As a heroic freedom fighter, their family is running on government allowance. His father Ahmed Hossain died in 2014. They are four brothers and three sisters. The three older sisters Anjuman Ara Begum (52), Shahnaz Begum (44) and Arjuman Begum (23) could not afford it. Currently living in a state of inhumanity. Four brothers ATM Jahangir Kabir, ATM Firoz Kabir, Mahmud Kabir and Mahfuz Kabir are all staying at home unemployed even after graduation. They have a total of 72 per cent land for houses, ponds and cultivable lands.

He further said that when the application was made to the Prime Minister for various assistance including treatment of Birangana Johra Begum, the Deputy Commissioner delivered the assistance of the Prime Minister to their house. Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdul Matin promised to build a road and a semi-finished house in the name of Birangana Mahiyasi Johra Begum in Rambhadra village of Sarbananda Union. He also hoped to provide job assistance to the unemployed boys and girls according to their qualifications. Birangana even promised assistance from the district and upazila administrations for the treatment of Johra Begum.
