Entertainment desk:  Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) has become turbulent with pro-opposition of student politics. Current and former students of the institution have expressed their strong opinion on this matter.

Popular Bangladeshi actress Opi Karim has expressed her stand in favor of banning student politics in BUET and declared her solidarity with the protesting students.

Opi Karim wrote on social media Facebook on Thursday, as a former student and alumni of BUET - I am in favor of banning all forms of student politics in BUET. I stand in solidarity with the movement of the current students of BUET and wish them success.

Incidentally, on October 6, 2019, BUET student Abrar Fahad was beaten to death by BCL leaders and activists. The court sentenced 20 people to death and 5 to life imprisonment in the case filed in that incident. All those sentenced are leaders and activists of Chhatra League. After the killing of Abrar Fahad, the authorities banned student politics in the BUET campus.

Meanwhile, at midnight on March 27, led by the president of the Chhatra League, some leaders and activists entered the BUET campus. The general students of BUET got angry about the matter. And as part of the movement, they are boycotting all kinds of academic activities including term final exams. On the other hand, Chhatra League held a protest rally on March 31 to introduce student politics in BUET.

Later, on April 1, the High Court suspended the decision to ban political activities in BUET. BUET student and Chhatra League leader Imtiaz Rabbi in view of the writ, Justice Md. A bench of Khasruzzaman and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar passed the order.

At the same time, the court also issued a ruling asking why the decision to ban political activities should not be declared illegal.
