Information Technology Desk:  The North Korean hacker group Lazarus, which looted Bangladesh Bank's reserve money, has now become stronger. Some other hackers joined them. All have developed networks with underground banking and drug traffickers in Southeast Asia. This hacker group is sharing money among themselves using casinos and cryptocurrency exchange platforms.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, UNODC, reported this information in a report on Monday.

According to the report, several activities of some other hacker groups including North Korea's Lazarus in the Mekong region (referring to Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia) have been observed by our experts recently. These activities have been identified by analyzing various hacking data and blockchain data.

According to Reuters, when asked about this hacker group, an official of the North Korean mission of the United Nations in Geneva said on condition of anonymity, "I don't know anything about it." All the previous reports about Lazarus are speculations and false information.

UNODC says the Lazarus group operates under the umbrella of North Korea's main intelligence agency. The group has been involved in some high profile cyber attacks, ransom extortion. Money stolen by North Korean hackers is invested in the country's weapons sector.

It should be noted that in February 2016, Lazarus stole about 8 million 10 million dollars by attacking the server of Bangladesh Reserve Bank. The loot was taken at some of the casinos and junkets Lazarus licensed in the Philippines.
