Ban on motorcycle movement in Gazipur on January 5-8

Gazipur Correspondent: In order to conduct the forthcoming 12th National Assembly elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner, a ban has been imposed on the movement of motorcycles in the electoral area under the jurisdiction of Gazipur metropolis from midnight on January 5 to 12 midnight on January 8.

According to the notification, from 12 midnight on January 6 to midnight on January 7, any kind of heavy vehicles including trucks, taxi cabs/cars, microbuses, pickups, buses, jeeps, tempos, local level motorized vehicles, engine-powered boats (moving on specific routes) except) restrictions on movement were imposed. However, the ban on vehicles engaged in assisting disabled voters will remain relaxed.

Apart from this, the instructions mentioned above will not apply to domestic/foreign journalists (subject to the approval of appropriate authorities) engaged in gathering news on the occasion of elections, officers, employees, armed forces, members of various forces engaged in law and order, authorized observers and election agents. Observers and Polling Agents shall use stickers issued by the Election Commission on their vehicles. 

In the notification, some emergency services-ambulance, fire service, electricity, gas, post, telecommunication operations will be exempted from this ban. Apart from this, restrictions on the movement of vehicles used for other urgent needs including the delivery of emergency goods, medicine, food etc. will remain relaxed.
