News Desk: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in response to BNP's agitation regarding the election, it got 30 seats in the 2008 election as well. So why so many jumps?

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the triennial conference of Jubo Mahila League at the historical Suhrawardy Udyan on Thursday (December 15).

The Prime Minister said, today BNP talks about elections. There was no talk about the 2008 election. Nationally and internationally, no one questioned that election. How many seats did BNP get in the 300 seat election? Only 30 seats. Jatiya Party gets 27 seats. Khaleda Zia could not have been the leader of the opposition if Jatiya Party got a few more seats. Why so many jumps? This is the result of the 2008 election.

Sheikh Hasina said that the fortunes of the people of the country improve when Awami League is in power. Awami League can give something to the people of the country. Those who were in power before, including BNP, could not give anything to the people of the country. For 21 years, the people of this country have been oppressed, exploited and deprived.

He said, journalists have forgotten that in 2001, no journalist could enter the southern region. He ran rampant in the region. A group from Gournadi came to Kotalipara and took shelter like 71'.

The Awami League president said, "I don't see any difference between the torture during the BNP period and the incident of 71". It was the leaders of Yuva Mahila League who started the agitation against them. At that time, police on one side and Chhatra Dal gangs on the other side tortured our girls unspeakably. Throwing them on the street, tearing clothes and tearing hair, we did not come and do that. We have focused on the development of the country.

'Protesting against injustice since its establishment, Jubo Mahila League has been working on the rights of the people of Bangladesh.' added the Prime Minister.

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader also spoke at the conference presided over by Jubo Mahila League president Nazma Akhtar and moderated by Professor Apu Ukil.

Jubo Mahila League was formed on July 6, 2002. At that time, Nazma Akhter was appointed as the convener and Apu Ukil as the joint convener and a committee of 101 members was formed. The first conference of the organization was held in 2004. Nazma Akhter was made president and Apu Ukil was made general secretary. Although there is a constitutional obligation to hold conferences every three years, the second conference was held after 13 years. Najma Akhter and Apu Ukil came to the leadership again in the last conference of Jubo Mahila League on March 17, 2017. This time, the leaders and activists expect a new leadership.
