Youth dies due to electrocution due to negligence in puja pandal in Bogra

Sanju Roy, Bogra: A youth named Rupam Karmakar Jago was electrocuted while taking down the idol from the mandap for immersion in Sherpur, Bogra. The incident took place at the Pubali Sangh Puja Mandap in the town of the upazila around 5 pm on Wednesday. 32-year-old Rupam Karmakar is the son of deceased Raghunath Karmakar of Upazila North Sahapara area. Officer-in-charge of Sherpur police station Ataur Rahman Khondkar confirmed these matters. He said preparations were underway to bring down the statue for immersion in the Pubali Sangh Puja Mandap in the afternoon. There was probably a leakage somewhere in the electric wires running for lighting in that mandap. On contact with that part, the rupam karmkara is electrified. Later, when the locals present at the pavilion took him to Sherpur Upazila Health Complex, the doctor on duty declared him dead. The OC said that a case of wrongful death will be filed in this incident. Then the police will hand over the body to the family.
