Roads are being used for drying and threshing crops during harvesting, vehicles and pedestrians in accidents

Narail representative  : Various types of crops are being dried and threshed on all roads, regional roads, highways and internal roads of Narail district. Accidents happen all the time. Due to this the vehicles are delayed in reaching their destination. As a result, drivers and passengers are in trouble. Not only that, last week, the wheels of a tin private car left to dry on a road in Naragati Thana area of ​​the district caught fire and the private car was completely burnt to ashes. However, the concerned authorities did not budge. 

It is known that there are 170 km of roads and public roads in the district and 2 thousand 295 km of paved and unpaved roads of LGED. On every road including Jaipur-Lahuria, Laxmipasha-Mahajan, Narail-Kalia, Bhatiapara-Narail, Narail-Phultala, Kalia-Chapail, Kundashi-Itna, Lohagra-CD Bazar, Edenda-Lutia, Dhopadah-Naldi via Mithapur for about 10 years. Various seasonal crops are being dried and threshed. These roads have become courtyards. Various crops including aus, aman, boro, khesari-lentil, coriander, wheat are now being threshed and dried on the road.

In this regard, car drivers, passengers and pedestrians said that drying crops on the road has become the culture of the district. If the drying of crops on the road is prohibited, the farmers do not remove the crops from the road, but on the contrary, they are insulted. We have to accept suffering and continue on the road'.

Md Makim Molla, a three-wheeler driver on the Lakshmipasha-Mahajan road, said, 'Farmers thresh and dry various crops on the roads throughout the year. As a result, various parts including the wheel and motor of the car get stuck in the crop and the movement is obstructed, and the vehicle is damaged.

Balai Mallik, a government primary school teacher in Narandia village of Jaipur union of the upazila, said, "Now is the season for growing crops. At this time, the people of the village use the roads for drying and threshing the crops on the road near the house. It causes temporary suffering. 

Jiru Kazi, Union Parishad member of Banka village of Lakshmipasha Union of the same upazila, said, 'People are harmed in this work. Crops are dried on roads paved for monsoons. So no one listens even if you ban (forbid)'. He thinks there should be a law in this regard. 

Syed Khairul Alam, president of Narail district branch of Want Safe Road (NISCHA), said that road accidents are increasing due to crop drying and threshing on the road. In this district in 8 years, 1 person died due to crop drying on the road, hundreds of people were injured and about 10 people were crippled. Along with creating public awareness, it is necessary to stop threshing of crops on roads by law, he said. 

In this regard, Lohagara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (Acting) Afrin Jahan said, 'This matter is not known. I first heard from you. So that no one can dry any kind of crop on the road, every Union Parishad Chairman will be informed and the matter will be discussed in the law and order meeting and a decision will be taken.
