Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has called on the BNP to repent and return to pro-people politics without following the mirage of foreigners coming to power. He also called on the BNP to prepare for the next national elections in accordance with the constitution.

The bridge minister made the call during a briefing at his office in the secretariat on Monday (March 21) morning.

"The Awami League government is anti-people, anti-independence and anti-state," said Obaidul Quader, criticizing BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's remarks. Those who engage in politics with the anti-independence forces and share power with the communal forces have nothing but shameless lies in their mouths.

Claiming that the BNP has already been identified as anti-people for its anti-national and anti-state politics, negative activities and corruption and misdeeds, Obaidul Quader said that democracy must be brought back to the BNP's own home. The people want to know how the BNP will establish democracy in the country if it has undemocratic practices in its party.

Obaidul Quader remarked that no matter how much the BNP talks about democracy, they are in fact anti-democratic forces and the main obstacle to the ongoing progress of democracy.

Mentioning that BNP is suffering from election-fearing disease, the Awami League general secretary said that blind criticism and lies of the government are the symptoms of this disease. The BNP has again started giving dharna to foreign doctors to cure the disease, but it will not be of any benefit. The politics of grievances has in fact made the BNP clear of its own spinelessness and indecisiveness. Excluding these, the general secretary of Awami League urged the BNP to walk on the path of self-purification.
