News Desk: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has said that a special operation is being conducted to make Mohammadpur in the capital free from godfathers and terrorist activities. The force claims that the operations have eliminated the teenage gangs. Currently, there are no active teenage gangs in Mohammadpur.

RAB-2 Commander Additional DIG Noymul Hasan disclosed this information at a press conference held at the RAB Media Centre in Kawran Bazar, Dhaka, on Friday (August 14) afternoon.

In response to questions from journalists, Noymul Hasan said, “We are arresting the godfathers. We are not focusing too much on lower-level members or small groups. As a result of arresting the godfathers, Mohammadpur has become much more stable than before.”

He said, “I hope Mohammadpur will become safer and more suitable for living in the near future. Everyone will be able to live safely in Mohammadpur. The hype that Mohammadpur has been created as a ‘City of Gods’ is basically a perception. We are trying to bring Mohammadpur out of that perception. We have already succeeded to a considerable extent. We hope that in the near future we will be able to completely eliminate gangs and terrorist activities from Mohammadpur.”

Additional DIG Noymul Hasan said that just as operations are being conducted to make Mohammadpur free from hooligans and terrorists, efforts are also being made to make the entire city safe and crime-free.

Regarding the arrest of suspects involved in the murder of Alex Imon, the RAB official said, “We basically consider arrests an important part of assisting the investigation. After arrests are made, when investigating officers take the accused into remand and question them, and they give statements under Section 164 before the court, detailed information can be obtained about the motive behind the murder and who was involved. Since we are not directly conducting the investigation, the police station will be able to provide better information on this matter.”
