Gazette publication of redistribution of offices of eight state ministers and two advisers

News Desk: To enhance the dynamism of government administrative activities, the responsibilities and portfolios of eight state ministers and two political advisers to the Prime Minister have been reassigned.

Several gazette notifications in this regard were issued by the Cabinet Division on Wednesday (4 March). The reallocation was made under Rule 3B(ii) of the Rules of Business, 1996.

According to the gazette, changes have been made to the responsibilities assigned on 17 February, specifying the duties of particular ministries more clearly. The notification, signed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, stated that other provisions of the 17 February notification will remain unchanged and the order takes immediate effect.

The state ministers whose portfolios have been reassigned are:

Md. Shariful Alam: Previously in charge of the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Industries, and Ministry of Textiles and Jute, he will now oversee only the Ministry of Textiles and Jute.

Sultan Salauddin Tuku: Instead of the Ministries of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock, and Food, he has now been assigned responsibility solely for the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.

Habibur Rashid: Has been given charge of the Ministry of Railways and the Road Transport and Highways Division.

Md. Rajib Ahsan: Assigned responsibility for the Ministry of Shipping and the Bridges Division.

Md. Jonaed Abdur Rahim Saki: Previously responsible for the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Planning, he will now oversee only the Ministry of Planning.

Farzana Sharmeen: Earlier in charge of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and the Ministry of Social Welfare, she will now handle only the Ministry of Social Welfare.

Md. Nurul Haque Nur: Removed from responsibilities for the Ministry of Labour and Employment as well as the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, he will now oversee only the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment. 

Bobby Hajjaj: Previously responsible for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, he will now oversee only the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

Reassignment of Political Advisers:

The government has also reassigned the responsibilities of two political advisers to the Prime Minister. According to the notification, political adviser with ministerial rank Nazrul Islam Khan has been given additional responsibility as adviser to the Ministry of Agriculture alongside his current duties.

In a separate notification, political adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed has been assigned the additional role of adviser to the Ministry of Industries in addition to his current position. Earlier, on 24 February, a gazette notification had appointed them as advisers with the rank of minister.
