Momen Explains the Reason for His Resignation

News Desk: Newly former Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen has stated that he resigned not due to pressure, but to meet the expectations of the elected government. He made this remark on Tuesday (March 3) in response to journalists’ questions after submitting his resignation.

Momen said that the new government has certain expectations, and to help fulfill those expectations, they resigned as collaborators. “We resigned on the 14th day of the elected government’s tenure. There is no special reason behind it,” he added.

He further said, “We felt that the newly elected government also has expectations after the change. To meet those expectations, the government will certainly appoint a more capable commission than us. I believe this will benefit both the ACC and the country.”

Responding to a question about whether the ACC had sufficient authority (“nail and tooth”), he said, “It is for you to judge. You can understand better whether we had sufficient authority during our tenure or not. We tried to fulfill our responsibilities during our time.”

Dr. Momen was appointed ACC Chairman for a five-year term on December 10, 2024. Earlier, he had served as Secretary of the Public Security Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs during the caretaker government. Alongside him, commissioners Mian Mohammad Ali Akbar Azizi and Hafiz Ahsan Farid took office on December 11 and December 15, respectively. Today, both commissioners, along with the ACC Chairman, submitted their resignations to the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat.
