All Ordinances of the Caretaker Government Will Be Presented in Parliament on March 12

News Desk: State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Mir Shah Alam, said that the ordinances enacted by the caretaker government will be presented in the National Parliament on March 12.

He made the statement on Tuesday (March 3) afternoon in response to journalists’ questions after meeting with officials and staff of the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC).

Regarding local government elections, Mir Shah Alam said that the caretaker government has issued an ordinance allowing elections to be held under a general symbol instead of a party symbol. All these ordinances will be presented in Parliament on March 12. Which ordinances will be accepted by Parliament and which will not will be decided on that day.

The State Minister added that elections cannot be held until the issue of symbols is resolved. Once the ordinances are accepted, they must be passed as law in Parliament. Following that, local government elections will be held at the earliest possible time.

During the meeting with SCC officials, the minister discussed ongoing and pending projects and gave instructions for new projects, including addressing waterlogging and dredging canals in Sylhet.

Speaking at the SCC conference room, he said, “Sylhet City Corporation is the most beautiful area I have seen. However, I have learned about the issues of drainage, waterlogging, and the recovery and renovation of rivers and canals.”

Regarding his Sylhet visit, Shah Alam said that Prime Minister Tarek Rahman has been providing guidance from the first day. This visit is on her direction. He noted that the Prime Minister’s spouse, Dr. Zobaida Rahman, was very pleased to learn about the visit. At the end of the tour, the minister will also inform her about various limitations and issues in Sylhet.

Earlier, Shah Alam visited the Kabi Nazrul Auditorium in Rikabibazar and the Dhopadighir Walkway in Sylhet city.

The meeting was attended by SCC Administrator and Sylhet District BNP President Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury, Sylhet-3 MP and former UK BNP President M.A. Malik, Sylhet-6 MP and District BNP General Secretary Emran Ahmed Chowdhury, SCC Chief Executive Officer Rejai Rafin Sarkar, Chief Health Officer Dr. Zahidur Rahman, and Acting Chief Engineer Akbar Hossain, among others.
