In Faridpur, Child Worker Killed by Air Injection; Main Suspect Hakim Arrested from Magura

Faridpur Correspondent: RAB-10 has arrested the main suspect, Rehat Sheikh alias Hakim (22), in the murder of a child laborer in a jute mill in Boalmari, Faridpur, where air from a compressor machine was forcibly injected into the child’s rectum.

He was apprehended on Thursday (26 February) from Shripur Police Station area in Magura District.

According to the case and RAB sources, the horrific incident occurred on 23 February around 9:30 PM at the Akij-Bashir Janata Jute Mill in Satair Union, Boalmari. The victim, 12-year-old child worker Md. Sajib alias Sharif, was cleaning dust from his body using a compressor machine pipe after finishing work.

At that time, the accused Rehat Sheikh and an accomplice forcibly injected high-pressure air into Sajib’s rectum, causing severe abdominal swelling and critical injury.

Sajib was initially taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment. Despite surgical efforts, he died on 25 February at 6:00 AM. Doctors reported that multiple perforations in the intestines caused by the high-pressure air could not be repaired even through surgery.

On Thursday night, RAB-10 Squadron Leader and Company Commander Tarikul Islam stated that Sajib’s father filed a murder case under Sections 302/34 of the Penal Code at Boalmari Police Station. Following the incident, the accused went into hiding. The case caused widespread outrage locally and on social media.

Subsequently, with intelligence and technological support from RAB-10’s Faridpur Camp (CPC-3), a raid in Magura led to the arrest of the main accused, Rehat Sheikh alias Hakim, who is the son of Lin Sheikh of Ramnagar village, Boalmari.

Tarikul Islam added: “RAB follows a zero-tolerance policy against such brutal and inhuman crimes. We were able to arrest the main suspect within 24 hours of the case being filed. The accused is now being handed over to the concerned police station.”
