Jamaat’s allegation: Strategic mob attacks, demands re-voting at 33 centers and suspension of results.

Gopalpur (Tangail) Correspondent: In the national parliamentary election held today (Thursday) in Tangail-2 (Gopalpur-Bhuapur) constituency, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has alleged that it fell victim to a “strategic mob attack.”

In a press conference, it was claimed that workers of the rival candidate attacked Jamaat’s polling agents at various centers, beat them, and forcibly expelled them from the polling stations. Female agents were also not safe. Several of them were allegedly held captive in separate rooms. Later, local administration officials rescued them.

It was also alleged that Idris Ali, assistant secretary of Gopalpur Upazila Jamaat, was beaten and expelled from the polling center.

Jamaat claimed that voting was forcibly conducted at 33 polling centers in the upazila. Therefore, they demanded re-voting at those centers and the suspension of the overall results.

These allegations were presented at a press conference held at the Gopalpur Press Club this afternoon by Jamaat-nominated candidate Md. Humayun Kabir of Tangail-2. Present at the event were Gopalpur Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Habibur Rahman Talukdar, Tangail district Jamaat Baitul Mal Secretary Shah Alam, Advocate Safiul Alam, and former Chhatra Shibir leader Shafiqul Islam, among others.
