Bangladesh signed historic agreement with Japan

News Desk: Bangladesh has signed a historic Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with Japan. The two parties signed the agreement at the signing ceremony in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, on Friday (February 6).

Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin and Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman were present on behalf of Bangladesh at the ceremony. This is historic for Bangladesh, as this is the first EPA or Economic Partnership Agreement in the history of Bangladesh.

Japan is the fourth largest economy in the world. As a result of this agreement, Bangladesh will get the export facility of 7379 products including garments in this country without any duty, and no complicated conditions have been included in it, said the Directorate of Information. In return, Bangladesh will give duty-free access to 1039 products to Japan.

The deal will open up 120 sub-sectors for Bangladeshi professionals in Japan. Besides, Bangladesh will open 97 sub-sectors for Japanese companies.
