Diplomatic Correspondent: In a solemn gesture reflecting deep respect and enduring bilateral solidarity, both Houses of the Indian Parliament—the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha—paid homage to former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and former Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Her Excellency Begum Khaleda Zia.

‎Members of Parliament recalled her historic tenure as the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh and acknowledged her role and contributions in strengthening India–Bangladesh relations during her time in office. The tribute highlighted her significance in the political history of Bangladesh and her impact on regional cooperation.

‎Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, along with Members of both Houses, observed a one-minute silence in honour of her memory. He also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and expressed solidarity with the people of Bangladesh during this moment of mourning.
