One lakh taka fine collected from MHE brick kiln for extracting soil from agricultural land

A mobile court has fined MHE Brick Kiln one lakh taka for extracting soil from agricultural land in Syedpur, Nilphamari, for use as raw material in brick production.

The mobile court was conducted jointly by the District Administration and the Department of Environment on Thursday afternoon (11 December). Besides imposing the fine, the court ordered the immediate closure of all brick kiln operations.

The mobile court was presided over by Executive Magistrate Rayhan Uddin of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, and Abdullah Al Mamun, Assistant Director of the Department of Environment’s District Office, acted as prosecutor.

Abdullah Al Mamun stated that the brick kiln did not have a valid license and was operating illegally. During the mobile court proceedings, it was confirmed that soil was being excavated from agricultural land for use as brick-making raw material.

He added, “We are monitoring brick kilns closely. Appropriate action will be taken if any legal violations are detected.”

Notably, the brick kiln, owned by Abdur Razzak Raju, is located in the Chiklibazar Icedhal area of Kamarpukur Union in Syedpur Upazila. A total of 90 local residents filed written complaints against the kiln with various authorities.

The complaints highlighted that the excavation was taking place within 100 to 300 meters of educational institutions, mosques, markets, and government housing projects.
