Diplomatic Correspondent: Crowne Plaza Dhaka Gulshan has unveiled Bangladesh’s first-ever Christmas tree made entirely from recycled plastic bottles, marking a pioneering step in sustainable hospitality. Constructed using 3,688 repurposed plastic bottles, the installation highlights the hotel’s long-term commitment to environmental awareness and responsible celebration.
Created and assembled by the hotel’s leadership team, the innovative tree aligns with the theme “RRR – Reduce. Reuse. Revive.” The bottles used in the project were intentionally collected over several months by senior team members, showcasing how impactful sustainability begins with small, consistent actions.
The initiative originated in July, when the hotel’s leadership pledged to eliminate single-use plastics both at work and in their personal lives. This year’s Christmas installation stands as a meaningful outcome of that commitment, transforming discarded materials into a powerful festive symbol.
“We wanted to celebrate Christmas in a way that reflects our values,” said Karthi VK, General Manager of Crowne Plaza Dhaka Gulshan. “This installation demonstrates the difference responsible choices can make. I strongly believe meaningful change grows from consistent small steps — and as leaders, it must start with us.”
Rooted in IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow sustainability framework, the eco-friendly Christmas tree reinforces that environmental responsibility is not a seasonal gesture but a year-round commitment to people, the planet, and the community.
Crowne Plaza Dhaka Gulshan has invited guests, partners, and the broader Dhaka community to visit the installation in the hotel lobby and join the conversation on sustainable festive practices.
